What is Wiimmfi?
Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection was shut down in 2014, but the community brought it back! Wiimmfi is a custom server replacement that allows you to play games like Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Animal Crossing: City Folk online again.
Method 1: The 'No Homebrew' Way (DNS)
This is the easiest method. You do NOT need a modded Wii. It works by tricking the Wii into connecting to Wiimmfi instead of Nintendo's dead servers.
- Go to Wii Options > Wii Settings > Internet > Connection Settings.
- Select your current connection and choose Change Settings.
- Scroll right to Auto-Obtain DNS and select No.
- Select Advanced Settings.
-
Set Primary DNS to:
95.217.77.181 -
Set Secondary DNS to:
8.8.8.8(or 1.1.1.1) - Select Confirm, then Save.
- Perform a connection test (it should succeed).
- Crucial Step: Go to the User Agreements section (Internet > User Agreements). Select 'Yes'.
- If successful, the Wiimmfi patcher should load. Wait for it to patch your game (insert disc if needed).
Method 2: Homebrew App (Disc Patcher)
If you have the Homebrew Channel, this is more reliable. You can use the 'Wiimmfi Patcher' app.
1. Download the Wiimmfi Patcher.
2. Extract to your SD card's apps folder.
3. Launch via Homebrew Channel.
4. Insert your game disc and start.
