Pokémon Crystal is the enhanced third version of Pokémon Gold and Silver, released for the Game Boy Color in 2000 (Japan) and 2001 (worldwide). It introduced the series’ first playable female protagonist, animated Pokémon sprites, an expanded storyline involving Suicune, and the Battle Tower. It was the last mainline game released on the Game Boy Color and is considered a high point for the second generation.
suiCune is a native PC port of Pokémon Crystal developed by DanZC and wowjinxy, released in May 2026. Unlike the Platinum port that surfaced around the same time, suiCune is a clean port built from the ground up in C99 using the PRET (Pokémon Reverse Engineering Team) decompilation of the original game, with no dependency on leaked Nintendo source code.
The project has roots going back to 2022, when developer froggestspirit began converting the original Game Boy Color’s Z80 assembly into C code. That repository was archived in early 2022, and DanZC and wowjinxy later forked it and continued development, hand-writing every function to match the exact logic of the original assembly.
