Pokemon Crystal Clear

Pokemon Crystal Clear by ShockSlayer fundamentally reimagines what a Pokemon game can be. Rather than a linear region tour, it gives you complete freedom: choose your starting location from any city in Johto or Kanto, your starter, your rival, and your character appearance before setting off with no scripted path.

All gyms can be challenged in any order, and their levels scale based on how many badges you have earned. A world champion-level trainer can set off from Goldenrod and challenge the Elite Four, while someone starting from Pallet can work through Kanto first. Crystal Clear has been updated continuously since its first release and is considered one of the definitive examples of what a romhack can do beyond adding difficulty or story. It requires the Pokemon Crystal GBC ROM and patches in any standard GBC patcher.
