Wii Play: Motion was released late in the Wii’s lifecycle, bundled with a Wii Remote Plus controller. Like its predecessor, it serves as both a tech demo and a casual mini-game collection, but the increased development time shows in some genuinely creative entries.
The Highlights
Cone Zone, where you balance ice cream scoops on a wobbling cone, is surprisingly tense and skill-based. Spooky Search, a ghost-hunting game in the dark, makes clever use of the remote’s speaker and motion sensing. Teeter Targets combines marble labyrinth gameplay with shooting mechanics.
The Forgettable
Unfortunately, too many games feel underdeveloped. Skip Skimmer (stone skipping) wears thin after minutes. Trigger Twist, while competent, feels like it should belong in a different collection entirely. The overall package lacks the cohesion and polish of Nintendo’s best work.
Value Proposition
As a pack-in with a controller, Wii Play: Motion was reasonable. As a standalone purchase today, it’s harder to recommend unless you’re a completionist. The best games (Cone Zone, Spooky Search) can provide entertainment, but they’re surrounded by filler.
- Cone Zone is genuinely fun
- Spooky Search is creative
- Bundled with controller value
- Some innovative ideas
- Too many weak games
- Inconsistent quality
- Feels unpolished overall
- Short-lived entertainment
