How to Setup Super Smash Bros. Universe
Getting Started:
This installation is for Super Smash Bros. Universe. It will overwrite the base Super Smash Bros. Project M.
Requirements:
An 8GB or larger SD Card, which can be SDHC. So I'll be using a 32 GB SD Card that I have been using to store all of my applications.
You will need a physical copy of Super Smash Bros. Brawl to launch and verify that you own the game. I get a lot of comments asking if following this tutorial will replace the normal version of the game with the modded one. And this is not the case, think of it as an addon or DLC that is adding more content to the game. Also, your save file will not be altered in any way whatsoever.
And lastly, you will need a Nintendo Wii or Wii U, with the Homebrew Channel Installed. I’m not sure if this tutorial will work with the Wii Mini, but you can test it if you’d like.
Now, I usually try to show both Non-Homebrew and Homebrew methods. However, since this mod is quite large, the Stage Builder exploit will not function correctly. Meaning that you will need the Homebrew Channel installed to launch this mod.
If you don’t have it installed, you can check out this guide here, which should walk you through the steps, and isn’t very long to complete.
Installation:
Anyways, now we are going to take our SD Card and insert it into our PC. Once it has been recognized, go to Downloads and click the Mega link. Remember Super Smash Bros. Brawl is not included. These are just the files that will help us launch the mod.
So download the files, which are safe and have been verified by me, and once the file has been downloaded, extract it using Winrar or 7Zip for Windows or The Unarchiver if you have a Mac. And once it has been extracted what you will want to do is drag and drop all of the files into the root of your SD Card. Make sure that if you have used Project M before, remove those old files before installing the new ones.
If you have an Apps folder, make sure that you merge them, because The Project M application will be inside, or you can just drag and drop it into your apps folder, if you want to do it that way.
And once everything has been successfully copied over, eject the SD Card and insert it into your console. Now power it on, make sure you insert your Super Smash Bros. Brawl Disk and open the Homebrew Channel. Once there you should see the Application called Project M. Super Smash Bros. Universe uses Project M’s launcher to boot the mod. So select ‘play’, and if everything goes correctly and the Wii starts to read the disk, everything should be working correctly. It can take a while to boot up, but that just means it is loading. Once it loads, you will see the greatest intro in Super Smash Bros. history and now you can play the game. If the game crashes, this is normal.
Congratulations! Super Smash Bros. Universe is ready to go!
