RUMOR: Huge Nintendo Direct Likely Next Month

A fresh Nintendo Direct rumor is making the rounds again, and this one comes from Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb. According to Grubb, he has heard that Nintendo is planning a presentation by mid-June 2026, which would place it sometime next month if the information is accurate.

To be clear, Grubb reportedly does not know the exact format yet. That means this could still end up being something smaller, including a Partner Showcase. But right now, that feels less likely than a full Direct. Nintendo simply has too many gaps in its lineup to stay quiet much longer.

Why a Full Direct Makes More Sense

Nintendo does have some announced projects on the board, but it still does not have enough publicly dated first-party software for the rest of the summer and the back half of the year. Splatoon Raiders is one of the clearest major titles in view right now, but Nintendo is going to need to show a lot more than that if it wants to properly map out the months ahead on Switch 2.

That is why a full Direct feels more plausible than a Partner Showcase. A partner-focused presentation could fill in some third-party support, but it would not really solve Nintendo’s bigger issue right now, which is that fans still need a clearer picture of what the company’s own release slate looks like through summer, fall, and even into early 2027.

There Are Still Missing Dates

One of the biggest reasons this rumor carries some weight is how many release dates Nintendo still needs to nail down. Even Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, one of the more talked-about upcoming projects around Switch 2 discussion, still needs a proper date if Nintendo wants to give fans a real sense of timing for the rest of the year.

If Nintendo is heading into June with this many missing details, a larger general Direct would make a lot more sense than a smaller side presentation. The company needs a place to lock in dates, re-establish momentum, and start filling out the release calendar in a serious way.

What Could Be Revealed

That also opens the door for bigger announcements beyond just release dates. If the Direct is real and if it is a full one, this would be an obvious moment to hear more about the long-running Ocarina of Time remake rumor that NateTheHate previously pushed into the spotlight.

I could also see Nintendo using a June presentation to begin teasing some of its bigger 2027 software. Other series that feel like realistic candidates include a new Nintendo Switch Sports, more Nintendo Switch 2 Editions such as Pikmin 4, a new Wario Land, a new Mario, or even another Luigi’s Mansion. Nintendo has plenty of franchises that are due for either a comeback or a major follow-up.

Still a Rumor, For Now

None of this is confirmed yet, and Nintendo can always shift plans or change the format at the last minute. But if Grubb’s information is accurate, then Nintendo may not have much room left to keep waiting. Between the need for more first-party visibility, missing release dates, and the pressure to give Switch 2 a clearer roadmap, next month feels like a very logical time for the company to finally make some noise again.
