Wii Chess

Wii Chess is exactly what it says on the box. Developed by a third party for Nintendo, it uses the Loop Express chess engine, which is considered one of the strongest engines ever put into a console game.

Functional but Dry

The game functions perfectly. You can play against the CPU or a friend, and the interface is clean. However, it completely lacks the ‘Nintendo’ charm. There are no Mii characters, no Mario-themed pieces, and no creative modes.

Final Thoughts

It is a dry, budget release. While it is a competent chess simulator, it feels like a missed opportunity to add some Nintendo flair to the classic game. Recommended only for hardcore chess fans who need it on their TV.
