The Wait is Almost Over
Rumors have been circulating for years, but recent leaks suggest the successor to the Nintendo Switch is imminent. With the original Switch approaching its 8th year, hardware limitations are becoming apparent, especially with third-party ports.
Backwards Compatibility
The biggest question for retro enthusiasts is backwards compatibility. Most reliable sources indicate that the "Switch 2" will indeed play original Switch cartridges. This preserves the massive library of indie and retro titles we've collected over the generation.
LCD vs OLED?
Initial reports suggest an 8-inch LCD screen to keep costs down, with OLED models likely coming later. While a step back from the Switch OLED model in terms of contrast, the increased resolution (possibly 1080p handheld) would be a welcome upgrade.
Our Take
As long as it keeps the hybrid naming convention and supports physical media, we're on board. The Switch has been a haven for retro gaming compilations and remasters, and we hope its successor continues that legacy.
