Nintendo has officially announced that the 2003 GameCube cult classic, Wario World, is the latest addition to the ‘Nintendo Classics’ digital library. Developed by the legendary studio Treasure (creators of Gunstar Heroes and Ikaruga), the game is a unique blend of 3D platforming and beat-’em-up combat that stands out from the rest of the Mario universe.

A Different Kind of Platformer

Unlike Mario’s graceful acrobatics, Wario World is all about raw power. Wario can grab enemies, spin them around, and pile-drive them into the ground to unlock treasure chests. The game’s level design is linear and combat-heavy, focusing on clearing arenas of enemies to progress through surreal, treasure-filled worlds.

Treasure’s Signature Style

Since the game was developed by Treasure, it features bizarre boss designs and inventive gameplay mechanics that feel more like an arcade game than a traditional home console title. While it was criticized for its short length at launch, it has since gained a reputation as a must-play for fans of the ‘Wario Land’ series looking for a 3D transition.
