Banjo-Kazooie Recompiled is a native PC port built using N64 recompilation technology. It runs the original game code natively with higher frame rates, 4K resolution, and widescreen support.

What You Need

  • A Windows PC with a DirectX 12 compatible GPU
  • A legal copy of Banjo-Kazooie (N64 ROM from a cartridge you own)
  • The latest BanjoRecomp release from GitHub

The recompiled port contains no game data. You must supply your own ROM. No ROM sources are provided here.

Step 1: Download BanjoRecomp

Download the latest Windows release from the official GitHub. Extract it to a permanent location such as C:\Games\BanjoRecomp.

Step 2: Set Up Your ROM

Place your Banjo-Kazooie N64 ROM in the same folder. The launcher will prompt you to select it on first run and verify the file hash against the required version.

Step 3: Launch and First-Time Setup

Run the launcher. It processes your ROM on first run, taking under a minute. After that the game launches directly each time.

Step 4: Display and Performance Settings

Configure unlocked frame rate, resolution up to 4K, widescreen, and MSAA anti-aliasing from the in-game graphics settings.

Step 5: Controller Setup

Xbox and PlayStation controllers work out of the box. Connect before launching and the controller is detected automatically. Button mapping is customisable from settings.

Troubleshooting

  • Wrong ROM version – check the GitHub page for the required ROM hash
  • DirectX error – update your GPU drivers and ensure DirectX 12 is available
  • Controller not detected – reconnect and restart the port
