Introduction
This guide covers the entire process of using Dolphin, from downloading the software and organizing ROMs to advanced features like Netplay (online multiplayer), custom textures, and connecting GBA games for titles like Four Swords Adventures.
Installation
Download the latest Beta version from the official Dolphin Emulator website. The video recommends version 5.0-17995 or newer.
Game Setup
- Store your ROMs in a dedicated folder (e.g., “Wii Games” and “GameCube Games”).
- In Dolphin, go to Config → Paths → Add and select your ROM folders to make them appear in the main menu.
- Optional: Enable “Grid View” and “Download Game Covers” in the Interface settings for a visual library.
Graphics Settings
Low-End PC
- Use Direct3D 11
- Set Internal Resolution to Native or 720p
- Enable “Compile Shaders Before Starting” to reduce stuttering
High-End PC
- Use Direct3D 12
- Set Internal Resolution to 1080p or higher
- Increase Anti-Aliasing (MSAA/SSAA)
Netplay (Online Multiplayer)
- Important Fix: Everyone should set their controller to Port 1 locally before joining.
- Host goes to Tools → Start Netplay → Host. Share the Room ID with friends.
- Once connected, the host assigns controller ports to the correct players.
Controller Support
Dolphin supports virtually any controller including Xbox, PlayStation, Switch Pro, or even a real Wii Remote via Bluetooth. Check Strategy Wiki for recommended button mappings for specific Wii games.
Cheats
Dolphin supports Gecko and Action Replay codes (e.g., infinite jumps, unlocking characters).
GBA Connectivity
You can link a virtual GameBoy Advance to the GameCube emulator for games like Crystal Chronicles, Wind Waker (Tingle Tuner), or Four Swords Adventures. This feature also works over Netplay!
Wii Menu
You can import a real Wii NAND backup to access the actual Wii Menu interface and channels within Dolphin.
