There is a new Mario Multiverse revival project in the works. Multiverse Revival rebuilds the fan-made Mario maker from scratch as a modern engine, and it brings every released version of the game together into one.

What is Mario Multiverse?
Mario Multiverse (also known as Super Fanmade Mario Bros.) is a 2D Mario platformer and level editor made by neoarc. It mixes styles from Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World and more, and its community has made hundreds of levels. Over the years it went through several releases, including a 2019 version with online level sharing, version 7.8, and Demo 2.1, and each one had content the others did not.

What is new in the revival
- Every version in one game: levels, styles and costumes from the 2019 release, 7.8 and Demo 2.1, side by side
- Play and editor in one app: the original used three separate programs, and test-play jumps from the editor into your level and back with one key
- Built for modern screens: HD textures, a sharp interface at any resolution, view size options, VSync and smooth motion on high refresh rate monitors
- Gamepad support out of the box
- A Levels hub, a theme menu with live previews, and stage packs with lives and score carried over
- New extras like slopes and a Tomataro costume from Paintra
Offline first. No DRM, no bans.
The revival runs fully offline. There is no DRM, no account to create, no always-online check, and nothing that can lock you out or ban you. Online features like sharing and downloading levels are planned as an optional extra that only switches on if you turn it on.

Where it is today
A lot is already in place. All 631 levels from the three main releases load with all 34 game styles, Mario’s movement has been rebuilt to feel like the original, the full level editor works with instant test-play, and around 160 costumes are in, along with Challenge Mode, sound and music.
The game is not finished yet. More enemies and power-ups, Luigi, Toad and Peach, the optional online features, and macOS, Linux and Android builds are still to come, and there is no release date yet.
You can follow the project on its Library page, and there will be more news here on Anton Retro as it develops.
Big thanks to neoarc for creating Mario Multiverse in the first place.
