You remember the Wii, right? Of course you do; like the DS, it’s a console that every household seemed to have. Everyone went mad for Wiimote waving action and gameplay that anyone could tap into regardless of their gaming ability, making it one of the most successful consoles of all time.

It’s no surprise, therefore, that people are wanting to keep the console alive today, and even in a world where the Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2 are reigning supreme, devs are still doing what they can to keep the grandfather of motion control gaming alive.

Metal Canary: A New Challenger Approaches

Check out Metal Canary from Nai Adventure, a shoot em up game that is being made for the Wii, Dreamcast, and also Steam. It’s set to launch this year at Retrocon 2026, and the best part is that the Wii version is getting a physical release that you can actually slot into your original hardware – how cool is that!

And let’s not forget the mighty Dreamcast too, Sega’s swansong console that is geting more attention now from the gaming community than probably ever before, with more ports of classic games being brought to the console to show off just how powerful and ahead of its time this machine really was. The fact that Metal Canary is releasing on both of these mighty consoles is a major win for the retro gaming community—new games for old consoles is always a winner in my book!

One thing I can’t get my head around is the fact that the Wii version of the game was ported in just 6 hours – Nai Adventure moves fast, huh?

There are still some little tweaks left to sort out, but the whole game is up and running on Wii and playable from start to finish already. Metal Canary will be releasing in the second half of the year, so keep checking back for more information as and when I get it!
